Why do I love helping individuals and teams?

It wasn't always this way. When I began my career as a chemist, I wanted to do cool science. The people stuff seemed like a waste of time when I could be in the lab creating novel therapeutics that literally saved lives!

Fast forward a few years, and I began to get a sense of how much good leadership and a healthy, inclusive, and equitable culture impacted my ability to do good science. (Translation: I've seen some shit.)

A turning point was working for a leader with a mindfulness and coaching background. I got to see firsthand the impact he had on my development and the entire team's ability to pull together and grow their collective talents over time.

I began leading a program to bring mindfulness to my fellow scientists. I loved seeing the moments of peace that mindfulness brought to these high-achieving, hard-driving scientists. And there were moments of poignancy, too, like when people asked how to use mindfulness to put up with abusive behavior. We talked about how important our emotions are, not as an excuse to act out, but to help us understand our deepest values and guide us when our boundaries have been violated. I will never forget the people who shared the profound impact these teachings had on their lives.

To deepen my ability to help organizations create healthy cultures, I earned an Integral Coaching certification from New Ventures West and a Master's degree in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University.

After twenty years of navigating the sciences as a female, I transitioned into my new career and into living as my authentic self, a transgender man.

Now I do this work full time, focusing on the intersection of Organizational Development and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). I honor my scientific mind by using evidence-based interventions and data, and I honor my heart by meeting each person with compassion and understanding.

It's been a long journey already, but I can't help feeling the best is yet to come. When you work with me, we partner together to unlock your inner greatness.
